We have found silver ore, opal, petrified wood, quartz crystal, animal bones and our red dirt spirits on this road trip and now it was time for the good stuff....gold! We fossicked around in the intense heat for as long as we could manage and found lots of specks of real gold in iron ore....treasure!! For me the real treasure was the accompanying exhibition about the lives of the early Tennant Creek inhabitants. Done with a style and sensitivity that was really appealing, it told stories of hardship, joy, success and failure...
And of course, the women had to be steely to survive the conditions...
And the kids were tough as well!
