The boys love their cub pack and always have a ball...last night was no exception with games, lots of laughter and some badges awarded.

The boys have been cubs for a couple of years now and they just love their time as part of the pack. As I do so many other activities with them, cubs has always been on 'dad' time, but last night Gav was hijacked by the State of Origin so I got to go up to the little hall at Peats Ridge and enjoy the shenanigans. And they had a ball! From the flag unravelling at the beginning to the the myriad of games...including dodgeball; And paper plane battles with chair forts; In every part of the night the cub leaders were present and involved with great humour and affection for their eager charges. This pack thrives on mutual regard.
At the end if the night, Flex and Lucky were both presented with badges and made a fuss of in true cub style. 1,2,3,woof! Don't know what it means but they have fun doing it! One of our favourite group activities in the Hs community...ice skating. Armed with beanies and gloves (and after many, many blisters, ski socks are a must) we descend on Erina ice rink. All ages and sizes of kids and adults skate around, some daredevils, some clutching white knuckled to the edge, some leg in air Disney on ice style, some playing tip. Then the hockey game starts and it's ON!!! Funnily enough, the most competitive of them all seems to be the instructor...they emerge 2.5 hours later full of cold air and adrenaline, ready for a sugar hit! Luca has been having piano lessons this term with a conservatorium graduate who was homeschooled all the way. A very gentle, patient girl who allows plenty of space in her explanations and keeps it really simple. It's quite refreshing to witness a teacher who simply lets the learning happen rather than control each step! Thanks to Vivid festival and Aldi, the Harbour Bridge has become a focus area in our free range homeschooling this week...from programming the lights on its steely arches on Friday night: To building it out of a kit from the German superstore.... To taking copious photos of it with the new Nikon: And making a print featuring it during art class: Such a fun and fabulous way to learn about this incredible piece of engineering. This weekend was all about light. The sparkling light of a child's laughter while experiencing their first amusement park... The incredible art of a neon light show which colored the city in a rainbow of exciting and truly scintillating experiences. The flickering light of 80 candles on my beautiful fathers birthday cake... The wonder of a natural colour phenomenon in the sky and ocean... Light. Taken for granted as its with us every day. The light of life, love and laughter is what keeps us all bright! |
