Virtual Reality!

Today we went into the city to see David Attenborough In VR at the Australian museum.
We took two trips to the bottom of the ocean to see all the wonders of life in virtual reality.
In case you were wondering, virtual
reality is where you wear a headset that fully immerses you in the virtual world which is playing on a screen millimetres from your eyes,
It also gives you 360 degrees of vision so you can look around.
The first short documentary I'm VR was about the coral of the Great Barrier Reef and how they are made by tiny little organisms.
The second adventure was back in time to the first living creatures which were tiny one celled organisms which eventually evolved into fish and molluscs some grew up to 2.5 metres long!
After we took of our headsets we then decided to take the long drive home and call it a day.
All in all I had an awesome time experiencing virtual reality for the first time.

French feasting and a birthday!

It was our main man's birthday and we celebrated in proper snow style with lots of food, wine, snow and smiles. As per our family tradition, the day started with cake for breakfast, singing and pressies.
Picture
We were lucky to have the lovely Frederique and Greg with us to add to the fun. And it doesn't hurt that Fred bakes a mean orange and almond cake 😜.
While the sugar rush was still in place, it was time to hit the slopes. Mother Nature obviously thought Gav had been a very good boy because she delivered fresh powder and blue skies for everyone to play in. Just glorious.

Double-tap to edit.
After a full and fabulous day on the hill we were treated to a 'raclette' dinner prepared by Fred and Greg. Let me set the scene; a funky contraption that melts individual servings of stinky and delicious raw milk cheese (raclette) in the centre of the table surrounded by plates of meat and bottles of wine. Omg. It was decadent, delicious and indigestion inducing heaven!!!

A 'full' day to celebrate a fabulous human. Thank you for all you are and all you do to make this world a more fun, truthful and living place. We love you soooo much!

Op Shop shenanigans.

We have managed to adopt (or be adopted by;) a wonderful Jindabyne family known as the Op Shop crew. A motley assortment of fabulous people who take time out to serve free dinner to all on Wednesday nights, provide free ski and board waxing and awesome second hand stuff.
Picture
The boys just love it. They are part of the gang and really enjoy helping out. Flex is even an official volunteer with a name badge and all!
The skills they have learned here are fantastic. Obviously ski and board wax/tuning is a plus, but more importantly they have learned to give and be of service to others. Be part of a team that exists for the greater good of all.
Yes, we love the Op Shop.
And I get to buy awesome stuff for super cheap and know the money is going towards good!!

And free dinner!!

Trout hatchery

Today we went to the trout hatchery where we saw many stages of a farmed trouts life.
Picture
We learned some new things and had a great time.
Picture
We saw how they produce eggs and the many stages they go through to turn into trout. These trout are then released into rivers and dams for recreational fishing.

A wet weather day called for a break from the slopes and an excursion to our country's capital.
What better place to start than Parliament House...
We wandered through the grand marble entrance, over the Indigenous mosaic design outside, learned about the Senate and The House of Reprasentatives and gazed at all the Prime Ministers on the wall...the architecture is quite stunning and the art was inspiring.
Next came freak shakes. Well, just because.
Picture
Now, show me the money!!! To work off our sugar rush we explored the Royal Australian Mint. This was really fun and fascinating, interactive and interesting. Who doesn't love dancing robots and piles of glittering money?!?
We finished off the day with some op shopping (big sigh from the boys) and a quick Costco mission.
Fun times!

So, we are back for another snow season! An opportunity that was too good to refuse paired with our passion and availability means another fun winter spent in Jindabyne and Perisher.
Picture
The boys are improving at an incredible rate and their repertoire of tricks just keeps growing...
Picture
Their confidence on the snow is the greatest acquisition. And not just confidence on a board, but an ability to engage with people of all ages in the lift lines, on the chair and in the wider community.
It truly feels like coming home.

Crazy Crabs!

Our first farm school of the term was on the topic of MUDCRABS! A bunch of lovely kids and grown ups, many of them newcomers to farm school, enjoyed a fun day of ecology, biology, poetry, art and crabology!
Fun facts:
*a female crab is called a 'Jenny'
*when a female crab is carrying her eggs she is 'in berry'
*if a crab loses a leg they can grow a new one!

The most exciting part was catching a whole bunch of cute little crabs, studying them, enjoying them and of course, releasing them at the end of the day.

The muddy handprint artworks were great fun as well and some children added the most amazing detail to their art, really demonstrating how much information they had absorbed.

Aint nothing like good, messy, muddy, hands on learning in the great outdoors!

Farwell Jester

For those who don't know who Jester is,

He had been the most amazing horse possible for 27 hot and cold years.

He was originally a show jumper for competition events until he retired for a easy life on the freedom farm.

Not only a pro show jumper but an awesome selfie machine

But very sadly not all good things last forever

In his old age Jester became weak and frail from a cancerous tumor on his "ding ding"

Despite our best efforts to remove the tumor, it always grew back bigger then the last

So very sadly we had to make the choise to either, let him suffer, or put him down from his suffering.

In the end we all decided to do the right thing.

Rest In Peace Jester.

May you have lots of apples and carrots in Horsy heaven.
