Thredbo Jazz

5/2/2016

Lucky went hipstamatic mad playing with the Autumn colours during our roadtrip to Thredbo. So many great trees including glorious, shimmering Hot English mustard hued Poplars and spooky, twisted gums.

Upon arriving at our Jindy digs it was strait to the hot tub...aaaaaah!

What followed was a nostalgic trip down musical memory lane with Mormor, Opa and some classic jazz. We all loved the great music, the yummy food and the good company.

We even rode the chair up to Eagles Nest for a brisk, beautiful breath of fresh air. Brrrrr...

Thanks Thredbo!

Games Design Workshop

On Saturday the 19th of March I visited the Academy of Information Technology for a game design  course which was in Ultimo Sydney.
Picture
To get to the AIT we had to get up at around seven o-clock(really early for us) to spend an hour and a half, listening to some of our fav tunes in the car.
When we arrived we were directed to the briefing room were they told us what we were going to do and were.
We then went to the computer room to meet our teacher who’s name was Peter. He then told us to turn our computers on and open the epic games app. once open the epic games program had so many different types of textures, weapons and animals to put in our games.
He then gave us an example of a empty room and told us to bring it to life, of course he had to show us how first.
The finished product looked amazing, it was awesome what some other peoples designs were
there were hot tubs, bears, chicken armies, and all that kind of cool stuff.
All in all it was an awesome experience, I learnt lots of new ways to make a room come to life, some of them literally made it come to life!
This is Flex signing off.

Yoga Leads to West Side Story

2/26/2016

We participated in a fabulous Family Yoga program at our local ashram towards the end of the last school holidays. It was a time to play, breathe, take a rest from technology and relax deeply into nature for 5 sun and fun-filled days.

Picture

We facilitated some circus workshops...and learned how to make dream catchers.

Picture

We did yoga and ate lots of delicious, homegrown vegetarian food.

Picture

And we did it all with awesome people who became firm friends over the week.

One of whom is a triple threat performer whom we got to go and watch act, sing and dance in a fabulous production of 'West Side Story' last weekend!

You never know where experiences will lead you...

Rock climbing!

Flex has decided his sport of choice for this term is rock climbing.

Keen to aquire all the flash new gear, we are going to o bserve what his level of commitment is like first.

This is the thing with homeschooling - there are often so many great activities to choose from you can become a jack of all trades and a master of none...which is 'better' in life? I still don't know...

Hilltop Hoods

"Hilltop Hoods formed when emcees suffer and pressure Met at high school in the hills of Adelaide, South Australia. Later introduced by a mutual friend to DJ Debris, the trio found common ground with the love of Hip-Hop. Hilltop Hoods have drawn on a broad range of influences they've never lost touch with the unique flavour they create in Adelaide Hills as young Hip-Hop fans. With an ethos that is both innovative and fearless, Hilltop Hoods inspirational sound has been embraced far beyond Hip-Hops loyal underground. When the heads of rock fans, dance music devotees and even casual radio listeners nod in unison with the infectios beats of the Hoods."Says Jo Wilson Hilltop Hoods publicist.

In my opinion they are the best in australia and maybe the world at their game, and without a doubt my all time favorites.

Flex's Scuba Adventure

On the Fourth of February 2016 I went scuba-diving at wave break island with the Gold Coast dive centre. When we arrived we were briefed on how to use the equipment and what all the hand signs meant. We headed off to the boat for a six minute boat ride to the island. After getting all the gear on we hopped in the water and started diving. When we got to the bottom the instructor pointed out hundreds of fish and showed us how to hand feed them!

After staying down there for 50 minutes we were told to head up and head back to the dive centre.

What an awesome way to spend a morning!

Flex out.

We went to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and we fed the rainbow Lorikeets! We fed them honey mixed with water in a silver dish!

Picture

We had to wait a long time for the rainbow lorikeets to come down from the trees. This was because the weather wasn't so great and they seemed a bit nervous. But when they finally did come down it was a cacophony!

Snow School.

Our education was like the snow conditions - varied, exciting, sometimes tedious to trudge through but always 'of the now'. Here are a few examples.

Picture

Learning how to wax your board. Why wax? What sort? For which conditions?

Picture

Getting the book work done...

Picture

How races work...

Picture

Music time at the op shop...

Picture

And of course just soaking up the beauty of the mountains, working on our snow sports and skills and whooping and hollering at every chance we got!

Back home.

Returning home to the freedom farm after 4 months at the snow followed by the mad adventure of Burning Seed has been...bittersweet.

Bitter in that I felt like I had to scrub every surface, clean out every shelf and drawer and shake the dust and cobwebs from every rug, scarf and 'thing' in the whole place.

Bitter in that the reality of life with all it's activities and social engagements and schedules seemed to encroach on the time spent simply 'being'.

Bitter in that the 'on tap' bunch of new and old friends that had surrounded us at the Snow and Seed were now noticeably absent and not just 'on the hill' or in the campsite next door.

At home often it was just us, the valley, the horses and the birdsong.

And therein also lies the Sweet.

Catching up with neighbors and family, with plenty of time for 'just us'.

Being surrounded by all our memories and equipment and tools and instruments for play, construction and learning.

Having the chance to create a totally new timetable in our homeschooling lives (this term it's circus, beach play, drama).

Waking up in the lushest green wonderland and swimming in the river whilst gazing at the sandstone escarpment that keeps us nestled in with Mother Nature.

Sweet.

Burning Seed - Revolution!

The utopian sharing community that is Seed, once again opened it's arms to us to play and learn amongst the wildflowers, red dust and chirruping frogs of the paddock.

Each experience of Seed is different, and the main difference this year was the addition of Gav. It was awesome having him to set up camp, explore and dance with!

Picture

The boys' experience of the festival is also changing. Felix tended to hang more with the adults (dressing up, playing spontaneous gigs in the street, going out dancing) while Luca was voluntarily engulfed into the world of kids camp and we barely saw him!

But we all came together to watch the temple burn.

It was beautiful.

Picture

Once again, it was a time of new experiences, a loosening of the ties that bind our minds, a limbering of the bodies on the dance floor and in the circus tent, a chance to people watch, participate in human moments and appreciate the beauty that exists in every flickering hearts flame.

The future is now.
