Lake Eyre wonderland!

I need to catch up on this one as it happened on the Oodnadatta track what feels like a lifetime ago. No reception then....
We were hoping to catch a glimpse of the lake as the salt encrusted patches grew more frequent on the side of the road. We enjoyed gathering satlbush, marvelling at the colors and of course, jumping ;)
Next thing you know Bam! There she is on our right, turquoise expanse glittering as far as the eye can see. It was hot and windy and we decided then and there to walk out to the water....

Lucky and I forged ahead, spellbound by the fairyland whiteness. From earth to white salt in hard ripples, then mud crusted with salt, then damper and damper until feet under water!!!!

Everyone else caught up and we delighted in the crystalline formations, the magical bruise sky and distant colors, the glitter of it all. The knowledge that we were experiencing a rare occurrence in our earths history as the lake rarely has much water in it at all. 'Once in a lifetime' again!
