Desert Park Beauty

Today, after a slow start (beers round the campfire with friends last night - the lovely Ananda from the ashram back home who has relocated to Alice for a while and her squeeze Ludo who is a professional contact juggler - google 'Mr Om'),
We headed out to the Alice Springs Desert Park for the day.
A day which started with an amazing bird presentation featuring this huge whistling kite which caught food in mid air drawing gasps of delight from the audience.

Then it was some meandering amid the bird enclosures where Lucky found the 'feather of the year'!

We learnt all about men's and women's tools from a fellow named Matt who illustrated that nature fanatics come in all shapes and sizes - even wheelchairs.

This is a baby cradle which the women would line with leaves and just tip out when the baby went to the toilet. Better than nappies I reckon!
Then we did a flora walk and talk and once again, I was dumbfounded by the wildflowers just bursting with life and color in this 'desert'.

I truly am a nut for these flowers! Even better when they come with cute little lizards!

The animal exhibits were sensitive and kind. The keepers passionate and friendly. I fell in love with the blue mallee leaf which reminded me of a kiss!

We are now chilling back at camp ready to head over to where Ananda is staying for dinner. It's nice knowing someone in town, and really, from here on in we will be visiting friends a lot along the way.
