Playing dress ups and working to a theme is a great way to express yourself and have fun. It's also a sneaky way to immerse yourself in history and culture...as you don the costume of a particular time and place, your curiosity of the details surrounding that era is naturally piqued. As it was for our recent '1920's' themed party to celebrate a relative's 21st.
As we tried on various outfits we discussed the effects of WW1, the prohibition of alcohol and the flurry of new music, fashions and dances of that particular era. At the party itself they had set up a Speakeasy bar and card tables where we learned how to play Poker. Flex loved it and spent most of the evening as the dealer! Youngest poker player at the party! He also won the prize for Best Dressed which in sure will lead to more inspiring dress ups in the future...
